Which of course means that inundation with "strong christian overtones" and a peanuts movie made by that Dobson guy would likely make a better Watchman movie than the one forthcoming. Returning to my submersible of denial now.
I will not be seeing it. I don't particularly care how good it is or it isn't. Given that I see about three movies a year and that, invariably, they are made of macros with cats and the word FAIL in them, I'll be steering clear of any adaptations of stuff I really like. Why set the shot up for them, neh?
Can't be much worse than the other Alan Moore adaptations. "From Hell" changed everything and missed the point of the original anyway. V for Vendetta while close to the original, seemed cold and clinical.
I'll watch it, but expect something the level of "Alien vs Predator".
I think you mgiht want to raise your expectations. Check out the official site and see what they've done with the costumes, for starters. They look (especially in the case of the Comedian and Rorschach) exactly like the graphic novel. Dave Gibbons, who illustrated the book, was invited to the set to see them at work and was blown away by how much effort they put into recreating the look of the original series. The film was done by people who are apparently hardcore WATCHMEN fans, and I think it's going to turn out to be one of the better comic book adapations. I normally don't go see adapations because they almost always suck, but I think this one is going to be the exception.
Well, costumes are good for eye candy -- but don't address my main concern about a Watchmen movie, which is simply that Watchmen is far too LONG to work as a movie, IMO. I would have rather they done a mini-series, or series of movies. I fear this is gonna be a plot-point race like the last couple of Harry Potter movies.
Well, you may be right about that -- it's a good concern to have regarding a byzantine plot crammed full of characters that took twelve issues to tell. How are they going to cram all that into two hours? Yeah, it could be problematic. My guess is that they're going to jettison a lot of the group origin stuff and concentrate mainly on the "who's killing the superheroes" plot. You're definitely right that a mini-series would have been a better idea, though....
(This is korperschwache in disguise, btw. Just in case you hadn't already guessed.)
